April 15, 1939 – July 31, 2009
 
Virginia was born in Kirkland, Washington, on April 15, 1939, and was raised in Port Angeles.
 
She graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1957 and moved to Seattle, where she met and married Calvin Hewitt and had two children.
 
She worked as a Mortgage Loan Officer most of her career. She worked from Alaska to Arizona and made many friends along her path.
 
Her many interests included bowling, family activities and playing her favorite game, Little Piggies, at the casino.
 
Her father, Gordon, owned and operated Hurning's Cedar Products, and her mother, Pearl, worked at the local stationery store in Port Angeles.
 
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her two nieces, Tracy Hurning and Cheryl Hurning of Bakersfield, California.
 
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Lloyd (Whitey) Best, of Port Angeles; brother, Paul Hurning of Bainbridge Island; daughter, Kelly Watson, and husband, Jeff, of Granite Falls, Washington; son, Scott Hewitt, and wife, Kris, of Shelton, Washington; nieces, Kim of Bakersfield, California, Shelly of Ogden, Utah, Tammy of Vancouver, Washington, and Tiffany of Medford, Oregon.
 
Virginia also had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
 
Family and Friends Gathering will be held at her residence on August 15 at 1 p.m.
 
Virginia past away at Olympic Medical Center on Friday, July 31, of natural causes. She was diagnosed with lung cancer eight years ago and became a rare survivor.
 
She was a strong and caring woman who loved her family, and her family loved her more than words could express. She will be greatly missed.

Beverly Jervis (Huffman)

Many years ago when I lived up on the farm just off of Scribner road (I think) I met Virginia. We were in grade school and we became good friends.

I was sorry to hear of her passing.
